Where is Istanbul? Istanbul’s Location

If you ask “Where is Istanbul located on a world map?” the answer is here for travellers. Istanbul is located in Turkey, Southern East Europe  and it connects two continents(Asia-Europe) to each other and it is also very important city because of its geopolitic position and natural beauty. Although it is not capital city of Turkey, it is the most important and the most crowded city of Turkey  -approx. 15million -.

The number of international arrivals have been increasing year by year with the promotional projects which have been conducting for some years. In 2012, the number of arrivals had reached 11.6 millions and Istanbul took place on 7th place on list of most visited cities in the world. On the other hand, in 2013 Istanbul is the best destination for congresses with more than 500 attendees.

In addition, Istanbul had been European Capital of Culture in 2010 and European Capital of Sport in 2012. On top of that, Istanbul has more than 200 shopping malls, 5 imperial palaces, dozens of summer palaces and mensions, 45 universities, 4 historic bazaars, 70 public and private museums

In past, Istanbul  was also former capital city of the Roman Empire, Byzantium and Ottoman Empire. Istanbul consists of 39 districts which are the mostly connected to each other.  14 of them is located in Anatolian(Asian) side and 25 of them in Europe side of Istanbul. In European side there are more touristic places such as Sultanahmet(Blue Mosque), Eminonu, Besiktas, Taksim and Beyoglu. On the other hand, Kadikoy and Uskudar are the most known districts of Anatolian side.

Besides Istanbul is a melting pot regarding both culture and religion,  most of the residents of the city consider themselves as muslims


In addition to these, between the two continents,  a natural scenic beauty exists: The Bosphorus
